Telekom Malaysia signs another collectibe agreement with Sabah union

KOTA KINABALU: Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) has signed another collective agreement (CA) with the Sabah Union of Telecom Employees (SUTE), for enhancement of various terms and conditions of service for its non-executives based in Sabah.

This was the sixth CA the company concluded with SUTE, which was followed by another CA signed between its subsidiary, Telekom Sales & Services Sdn Bhd and Sabah Union of Telecommunication Employees (SUTEN).

Both signing ceremonies were attended by Tan Sri Zamzamzairani Mohd Isa, Group Chief Executive Officer, TM and accompanied by Dato’ Mohd Khalis Abdul Rahim, Chief Human Capital Officer, TM together with Imri Mokhtar, Executive Vice President, Consumer TM who is also the Chief Executive Officer of TSSSB.

SUTE was represented by its president, Haji Adanan Jalil and Jaflee Haji Hassan, general secretary of SUTE.

Meanwhile, SUTEN was presented by its president, Jamaludin Mahmod and Haji Makbal Haji Engatan, general secretary of SUTEN.

Zamzamzairani said the conclusion of the agreements reflected the continuing amiable relationship between the management and the unions, thus further proving that the 1TM concept has been successfully embraced by all parties.

“We view a harmonious relationship between the employees and the company’s management as essential in bringing positive results.

“When our workforce is co-operative and understands each other, coupled with the ‘Teaming with Passion’ spirit that has been instilled amongst our warga TM regardless of level and location, we can together drive the company towards even better performance, and continue to lead the industry in delivering communication services to the nation,” he said.

The CAs allowed TM to officially expand to Sabah, the 60 years old retirement policy it adopted effective July 1, in accordance to the Minimum Retirement Age Act 2012.

It also paved the way for salary adjustment for its employees in the State, which will see a 5.5 per cent increment for the first year.

The agreements also provide for the enhancements of disciplinary articles, where more specific emphasis is now given on the articles with regard to disciplinary actions.

Besides NUTE, SUTE and SUTEN, the non-executives of TM are also represented by the Union of Telecoms Employees Sarawak (UTES).

TM had earlier signed the CAs with UTES on July 23, in Kuching and NUTE on July 19, at its headquarters Menara TM.

Similar agreements with the National Union of Telecommunications Employees (NUTE), the union representing TM’s non-executives in Peninsular Malaysia and the Federal Territory of Labuan had also been signed earlier.

A statement on the CAs issued here yesterday said TM prides itself in having close ties and understanding with its non-executives unions by having regular and open communications with them.

Engagements, which include dialogues, meetings and visits to the ground have enabled TM and the unions to reach a consensus as well as resolve most issues of concern, relating to the employees’ benefits and welfare, according to the statement.
