MUAR: Ten Singaporean tourists had a narrow escape when the bus they were travelling in skidded and landed on its side KM145.7 of the North-South Expressway near the Pagoh Rest and Service Area early yesterday.

The impact caused the bus driver, Zainal Abidin, in his 50s, who was at the wheel, and assistant driver, Mohd Rusdi Ahmad, 28, to be thrown out of the vehicle, but only sustained light injuries.

The passengers, aged between 20 and 50, and the two bus drivers, were then sent to the Sultanah Specialist Hospital for examination.

Mohd Rusdi said the crash occured about 2am while Zainal was at the wheel of the bus.

He said Zainal suddenly lost control of the bus, causing it to skid and crash into the road divider before landing on its side.

“Zainal and I were thrown out of the bus and in the darkness, we climbed back into the bus to help save the passengers,” he added.

Mohd Rusdi, from Juru, Penang, said he drove the bus when it departed from Beach Road in Singapore at 10pm on Tuesday, before Zainal took over the wheel after they made a stop at the Yong Peng R & R at about 1am yesterday.

Meanwhile, Muar police chief, ACP Azman Ayob, when contacted confirmed the incident. — Bernama
