THE government has channelled RM1.72 billion to finance the Housing Aid Programme (PBR) throughout the country between 2000 and June this year, said Rural and Regional Development Deputy Minister Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi.

He said the programme had enabled 193,534 units of houses to be repaired for the poor and hardcore poor.

“This is part of the government’s mission to eradicate poverty in the country under the People’s Wellbeing Development Scheme (SPKR),” he said when replying to Senator Datuk Pau Chiong Ung during question time at the Dewan Negara sitting, here yesterday.

Pau had asked whether the ministry planned to widen the scope for the registration of eKasih for government servants on contract who earned less than RM1,000 per month and the total spent since the PBR was launched. Nanta said applications for the PBR from those eligible could be submitted through the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) of the respective District Offices. — Bernama
