KOTA KINABALU: A 33-year-old local man pleaded not guilty at the Sessions Court here yesterday to a charge of armed gang robbery with a handmade shotgun at a law firm.

Judge Ismail Brahim fixed August 21 for the management of Mohd Nazary Mahmat’s case.

The man is accused of robbing one A Ejap Kerun, 44, of RM40,000 in cash, including foreign currency, and valuables.

The crime was allegedly committed with four accomplices, two of whom are still at large, on July 16 at an outlet in Labuan House.

The charge under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code carries up to 20 years’ jail and liable to whipping upon conviction.

The court set bail at RM10,000 with two local sureties for Nazary and ordered the unrepresented accused to surrender his passport to the court.

Deputy public prosecutor Nartiah F Mirchelle Sambatan prosecuted the case.

On Wednesday, Nazary was not present in court for his plea to be taken alongside Gemut Nanum, 31, and Clement Juan, 27, for the alleged offence.

Gemut and Clement, both Sarawakians, had pleaded not guilty to the charge and are currently released on bail of RM10,000 each pending their next appearance in court on August 21.
