KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Police Commissioner, Datuk Hamza Taib, has not rule out that the widely spread rumour of a possible second wave attack by Sulu gunmen in the state is a psychological war tactic to protect its leaders.

He said, Agbimuddin Kiram, who managed to slip out after leading his armed men into Kampung Tanduo in Lahad Datu on February 12 this year, is currently in hiding for fear of his safety, despite staying in his own country.

“Apart from creating uneasiness and insecurity among the people in the state, the psychological war (or psy-war in short) is also a tactic to protect the Sulu group and their leaders.

“Even now the Sulu leaders are being tracked down in their own country. So the psy-war is a way to create confusion here,” he said, after attending the Sabah Security Working Council meeting chaired by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman at the Wisma Innoprise, yesterday.

Hamza was commenting on the rumours of a second wave attack by the Sulu gunmen at several locations in Sabah. The latest rumour is on the possible entry of 80 gunmen in Sandakan.

“This information was actually shared by the General Operations Force (GOF), and we will handle this piece of information like any other tip off that we receive. It is also a reminder to all security posts state wide to be on their toes, to ensure that they are ready for any eventualities.

“Nevertheless, based on our investigation, there have been no signs and evidence of any possible entry by the gunmen. However, we will continue to verify any information received and will not take things lightly, we will act on it immediately,” he said.

Earlier, Musa has assured the people that the security and safety of the people are protected, stressing that Sabah is safe.
