Gold dealer cheats death in shooting

KUALA LUMPUR: A gold dealer survived an assassination attempt when a hitman shot him on the right shoulder when his car stopped at a traffic light in Jalan Makmur, Pandan Indah, here, yesterday.

Ampang Jaya police chief, ACP Amiruddin Jamaluddin said that in the 8.45am incident, the dealer, Wong Foo Yui, 34, was hit once from the three shots fired at him while he was in his Toyota Camry.

“The victim was shot by one of the two men on a blue Yamaha motorcycle before they fled,” he said.

He said despite sustaining injury, the victim drove his car to the Pandan Indah police station about 500 metres away from the crime scene to seek help.

Amiruddin said Wong, from Jalan Klang Lama,was reported to be in stable condition at Ampang Hospital.

In a space of five days this week, there were two other murder cases using firearms, including a high-profile victim.

On Monday, Arab Malaysian Bank founder, Hussain Ahmad Najadi, 75, died while his wife, Chong Mei Kuen, 49, was injured when they were shot at close range at a parking lot after coming out of the Kuan Yin Temple in Lorong Ceylon, here.

On Wednesday, a factory van driver N Jeevandran, 26 was found dead with two gunshot wounds on the left of his abdomen and right hip, at a junction in Jalan Permai Utama, Parit Buntar, Perak.

Reacting to the latest crime, Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar gave his assurance that police would step up security enforcement, especially against widespread serious crime involving killing with firearms. — Bernama
