KUALA LUMPUR: The son of Arab-Malaysian Bank founder Hussain Ahmad Najadi is confident the Malaysian police will solve his father’s gruesome murder.
Pascal Najadi, 45, said he had received a telephone call yesterday, from a high- ranking police officer informing him on
the latest development in the killing.
“The officer said they had intensified their efforts to nab the assailant, including collaborating with taxi operators, but I cannot elaborate,” he said in a telephone interview with Bernama from Moscow, Russia.
On Monday, Hussain, 75, was shot dead while his wife, Chong Mei Kuen, 49, was injured when they were shot from close range, by a gunman whom the police suspect to be a hired killer.
The couple was walking towards their car after discussing a property deal at a Chinese temple in Lorong Ceylon here, when the incident occurred.
It is learnt the police have a closed-circuit television grab of a man linked to the killing of the septuagenarian.
On Thursday, Pascal was reported to have claimed that his father’s murder was premeditated and that there was no property deal involved, whatsoever.
Pascal, who holds dual Swiss and British citizenships, said an English daily had criticised him under a misassumption that he was not cooperating with the police.
He reiterated by saying it was untrue.
He said he was willing to cooperate with the Malaysian police but stressed he could not return to the country as he feared for his safety.
“I love Malaysia, I have been to the country many times since 1972 to spend school holidays with my father in Ampang Hilir. But I cannot come to the country (now) as I fear for my safety.”
Pascal requested the police to liaise with the Malaysian Embassy in Moscow if there was any information they required from him.
He also said the police could contact him, via his company or call him on his cellphone, at any time. — Bernama
