Bike-patrol car collision kills soldier

SANDAKAN: An army personnel attached to Battalion 22 of Royal Malay Regiment, Sri Kinabatangan Camp here was killed when his motorcycle collided with a police patrol car at Army Camp Road, Mile 7 on Saturday night.

Muhammad Fahruruzi Sudin, 25, was pronounced dead at 10pm while receiving treatment at the Duchess of Kent Hospital.

According to district police chief ACP Rowell Marung, the police car was heading to Taman Airport from Kampung Sungai Kayu for crime patrol when the accident occurred about 9.10pm.

As the police patrol car was turning to the right junction, it collided with the motorcycle which was believed coming from the direction of Taman Fajar.

Rowell said the case would be investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving that caused death.

Witnesses of the accident are urged to call investigation officer Inspector Wan Hazizie at 089-242222 (extensiion 254) to assist in the investigation.
