Defamation suit against Clare Brown withdrawn

KUCHING: The plaintiffs in a defamation suit against Sarawak Report contributor Clare Rewcastle Brown decided to withdraw the suit yesterday.

The High Court fixed Aug 19 for hearing of the withdrawal application.

Brown is also associated with Radio Free Sarawak.

The plaintiffs were entrepreneur Tan Sri Datuk Amar Leonard Linggi Jugah, politician Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi, businessman Greame Iaan Brown, Asian Plantations (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd, Keresa Plantations Sdn Bhd and Rajang Wood Sdn Bhd.

The suit was filed by them following an article by Briton Brown in Sarawak Report published on May 1.

The alleged defamatory remarks were contained in the article entittled ‘Dirty Dayak Datuks – BN crony candidates’.

In a related development, Brown has been denied entry into Kuching at Kuching International Airport (KIA) on July 3.

She arrived at KIA at 1.15pm that day from England, transit in Singapore.

She was asked to go back to Singapore on a 3.40pm flight.
