JITRA: The Energy, Green Technology and Water Ministry encourages the people to contribute renewable energy to Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) to help support the government effort to increase electricity supply from such energy.

Deputy Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid said the people could harness solar energy for sale to TNB and help reduce the company’s cost of purchasing gas and coal in the long term.

He said these individuals could not only help the government to make use of the renewable energy but also earn an income from the sale of solar energy to TNB.

“Countries in Europe are already using solar energy and windmills to harness electricity. We are just using one per cent of such energy and want the percentage to rise from time to time,” he told reporters after a breaking-of-the-fast with Kedah media personnel here Monday night.

Mahdzir said that since the programme was launched two years ago, it had gathered about 2,000 participants but confined to the Klang Valley. — Bernama
