KUCHING: Sarawak Bodybuilding Association (SBBA) will organise a competition to commemorate the association’s 50th anniversary this month.
SBBA president Datuk Wee Hong Seng has announced that the Golden Jubilee Mr Sarawak contest will be held at Plaza Merdeka here on Aug 31.
He said that it is exciting that the association has got the chance to commemorate the association’s 50th anniversary with a contest and at the same time celebrate Sarawak’s 50th ye ar of independence in Malaysia.
“Fifty years is long way coming. SBBA will continue to take Sarawak bodybuilding to greater heights,” he added during a press conference yesterday.
“Ever since we competed in Sukma bodybuilding for the first time ever this year in Sukma XVI, we have our vision and SBBA will do its best to groom more Sarawak bodybuilders and hopefully become the nation’s bodybuilding powerhouse some day,” Wee commented.
Bodybuilding became a Sukma event for the first time at the 2011 Sukma in Kuala Lumpur but Sarawak did not participate in the inaugural event.
At this year’s Sukma XVI, Sarawak did well to win a bronze medal through Mohd Alzrin Abdul Ghani in the 65 – 70kg category.
The upcoming Golden Jubilee Mr Sarawak will see four categories being contested namely Mr. Fitness (also known as Mr Badan Cantik), Mr Novice (New Talent), Below 70kg and Above 70kg.
All Sarawakians are welcome to compete in this contest and winners will stand a chance to win cash prizes and be selected to represent Sarawak in future national tournaments. Wee disclosed that there will be no age limit set for the competition.
He reminded all contestants to strictly comply with all competition rules and highlighted the importance of punctuality on weigh-in day.
“For those living in Kuching, weigh-in day will be held on Aug 21, 5.30pm and for those living outside Kuching area, the weigh-in will be held on Aug 30,” he added.
