KOTA KINABALU: Seventeen men, including four foreigners, were separately charged in a Magistrate’s Court here yesterday with consuming syabu.
All the accused aged between 23 and 40, who appeared before magistrate Edward Paul, were charged under Section 15 (1) (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which carries a maximum fine of RM5,000 or a jail term of up to two years upon conviction.
No plea was recorded from the accused who were arrested during separate operations in the city, Penampang, Putatan and Kampung Air areas between August 1 and 5.
The court set September 6 this year to re-mention the cases pending the production of the accused’s urine results.
Edward released each of the local accused on RM1,200 bail with two local sureties while the foreigners were ordered to be further held in custody pending disposal of their cases.
