KUCHING: An all-new hit teen boy band from the United States, Beyond 5, will be in town for a performance at the Dayak Bidayuh National Association (DBNA) hall on Aug 12.

Beyond 5 is a group of five super-talented boys aged 15 to 18 who are on a four-week summer service mission ‘Tour of Asia’ hosted by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Zac Love, Tanner Myler, TJ Ryan, Ammon Tuimaualuga and Patch Crowe will be performing songs that convey positive and uplifting messages.

The concert is from 7pm to 9pm.

The public, especially youths, are invited to attend the concert.

Admission is free of charge.

Beyond 5 began their tour in Mongolia on Aug 2 and then travelled down to Kuala Lumpur, Singapore en route to Kuching and then to Thailand, Cambodia, Hong Kong and will finish in Taiwan on Aug 29.

The group is the brainchild of producer and popular music composer, Tyler Castleton, who has co-written songs for such famous musicians as country music superstar Martina McBride, legendary music icon Gladys Knight and entertainer Marie Osmond, according to the church’s Hong Kong website.

Castleton and fellow ‘Beyond 5’ producer, Russ Dixon, also an accomplished songwriter and record producer, are thrilled to bring this new band to Asia prior to the group’s extensive fall tour through the United States.

The boys were chosen from a competition, similar to that of ‘American Idol’, that saw 300 young men taking part across 40 states in the USA and several foreign countries.

The vision for this group, highlighted Castleton in his website www.tylercastleton.com, is centred on radio-hit melodies built on tight harmonies, driving, infectious beats and cutting edge production.

Beyond 5 is managed by McKay Crockett, an award-winning producer, director, songwriter and performance coach from Salt Lake City, Utah USA.

He has been heavily involved in the music industry since he was a teenager and has shared the stage with artistes including Switchfoot, Sara Bareilles, Ben Folds, Nick Lachey (98 Degrees), Brian Stokes Mitchell and countless others.

Crockett has also sung with Vocal Point, the internationally acclaimed vocal band that recently appeared on NBC’s The Sing-Off.

Dixon, on the other hand, was one of the founding members of ‘Colours’, one of the most successful independent music groups ever to come out of the western United States, which toured for 10 years and set unprecedented sales records in the regional music market.

For the last five years, Dixon has produced the theme albums for the popular youth programme, — EFY — albums that have spawned dozens of songs which have become new classics in Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and Christian music.
