Head of State calls on Muslims to let enforcement agencies take care of religious issues

KUCHING: Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Datuk Patinggi Abang Muhammad Salahuddin Abang Barieng called on Muslims in the state to be patient and allow law enforcement agencies to deal with issues which could threaten harmony.

He said of late the sensitivities of Muslims have been challenged by some quarters intent on stirring up racial issues.

“Our entrenched constitution and sovereignty of law are the main pillars for peace and harmony. We should be truly grateful as we are lucky to be celebrating Aidilfitri in a politically and economically stable climate,” he said in his Aidilfitri message here yesterday.

He was proud that Sarawak will be celebrating its 50th year of independence through the formation of Malaysia with a range of activities all year round to commemorate the history, challenges and evelopment of the state.

Attributing Sarawak’s progress to joint efforts by the people and the state’s leadership, he added that the current status must be maintained in order to achieve Malaysia’s vision to become a developed nation by year 2020.

Meanwhile, in his Aidilfitri message, Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud thanked the people of Sarawak for voting for Barisan Nasional (BN) in the 13th General Election.

BN’s success would give the government the strength to bring further unity and progress to the state and inspire the present and future leadership, he said.

Taib, who is Minister of Resource Planning and Environment, said Sarawak would face many challenges in its preparation for the 10th Malaysia Plan.

Therefore, he advised the people to be ready to face different forms of changes from 2016 onwards, especially in terms of housing for those who have to move to the cities. — Bernama
