KUANTAN: The gazetting of anti-Shia laws by all the states can avoid disputes arising from Shia teaching as it can divide and create conflict among Muslims.

Pahang Mufti Datuk Abdul Rahman Osman said Muslims in Malaysia should learn from the conflicts in Iran and Syria, two countries that practise the Sunni and Shia teachings.

“We hold fast to the Quran, the Sunnah and Hadis of the Prophet as a way of life, but they only accepted the Quran but reject the others.

“If we do not curb the teaching, it will create further confusion and divide Muslims into the Sunnis and the Shias,” he added.

The Pahang Islamic and Malay Customs Council (MUIP) had taken immediate action to curb the spread of Shia teaching after the Pahang Sharia Law Consultative Committee banned the teaching in the state.

“We had decided to ban individuals or groups from practising and propagating the Shia teaching as it will mislead the faith of Muslims and most importantly, it is against the teaching of Sunnah Wal Jamaah.

“The government should also devise various strategies to curb this teaching from spreading among the Muslim community, especially those who lack knowledge of Shia teaching.”

Abdul Rahman added firm action must be taken against individuals or groups trying to spread the Shia teaching among the Muslim community in the country. — Bernama
