Local man charged with threatening, injuring model

KOTA KINABALU: A Magistrate’s Court yesterday maintained August 29 for the trial of a local man who faces two charges of threatening and injuring a 21-year-old female model here.

Mohd Bakhzein Awang @ Alianang, 29, had pleaded not guilty to both charges on August 2.

On the first charge, Mohd Bakhzein was alleged to have threatened Siti Sarah Omar with a knife at a unit in University Apartments, Jalan Sulaman in Menggatal on July 28.

The charge under Section 506 of the Penal Code carries imprisonment of up to seven years, and liable to a fine upon conviction.

On the second charge, Mohd Bakhzein stands accused of injuring the same victim at the same time and place.

The charge under Section 323 of the same Act provides for not more than one year’s jail and a fine, upon conviction.

Magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus extended the accused’s bail of RM1,800 for each charge, with RM500 to be deposited immediately, plus two local sureties.

In a similar case, the same court fixed September 2 for the re-mention of a case of a 28-year-old woman charged with injuring her co-worker, pending the victim’s medical report.

Julminah Julaspi was charged on July 1 and had pleaded not guilty to injuring Alma Abdullah, 38, on June 23 at a food court in Asia City.

She was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code which provides for imprisonment of up to one year and a fine of up to RM2,000, upon conviction.

Meanwhile, Balitus fined Leonard Fletcher Lim, 40, RM2,300, in default, five months’ jail, for possessing 0.14 grammes of syabu at Kampung Air on June 10.

Leonard had pleaded guilty to the charge framed under Section 12 (2) of the Dangerous Drug Act which carries a fine of up to RM100,000 or maximum five years’ jail, upon conviction.

Prosecuting officer Inspector Azaman Hamat prosecuted all the cases.
