KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Tin Can Manufacturers Association (MTCMA) and its members are pleased with the Ministry of International Trade and Industry’s (MITI) decision to impose anti-dumping duties on exporters from South Korea and China.

In a statement yesterday, MTCMA said MITI’s investigation on the petition for anti-dumping lodged by Perusahaan Sadur Timah Malaysia Bhd (Perstima) was ‘fair and transparent’.

Perstima is the sole supplier of tinplates in the country.

MITI had on July 19 decided to impose anti-dumping duties, except three exporters from China with ‘zero’ duty.

The companies were Baoshan Iron and Steel Co Ltd, Zhongshan Zhongyue Tinplate Industrial Co Ltd and Shanghai Meishan Iron and Steel Co Ltd.

However, anti-dumping duty will be imposed on three exporters from South Korea. Dongbu Steel Co Ltd will be imposed 13.84 per cent anti-dumping duty, Shinhwa Silup Co Ltd (3.31 per cent), TCC Steel Co Ltd (4.46 per cent) and others (25 per cent). Handan Steel Group Hengshui Cold Rolling Steel Co Ltd from China will face 7.40 per cent duty and others (16 per cent). — Bernama
