Man believed to have jumped from express boat

KAPIT: A man aged between 30 and 40 years is believed to have jumped from a Sibu to Kapit express boat yesterday.

The incident report edlyoc curred between Sunga I Melipis and Nanga Sungai Sebatu, Batang Rajang, which is halfway between Kapit and Song.

A passenger said the man, believed to be an Iban, who was sitting next to him, was very restless.

The man is said to have stood up and sat down repeatedly from the time the express boat left Sibu at 7.30am.

At some point he suddenly climbed up to the express boat’s roof and jumped into the river.

In a police report filed at the Kapit police station at 11.45am, the passenger said he did not know the man’s identity, but described him as wearing jeans.

Upon receiving the report, police and Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) personnel conducted a search operation at the scene.

Kapit police have called on those who have any missing family members or friends to go to the nearest police station or Kapit police headquarters, or to contact Kapit police station officer in charge Sub-Inspector Jen Jimbey on 019-4851955.

Meanwhile, in an unrelated incident, a lumberjack died at a timber concession area in Putai, Batang Baleh when a tree fell on him.
