KUCHING: Sarawak Bumiputra Tennis Association (PTBS) will be finalising the date for this year’s edition of the YB Fadillah Cup soon.

Speaking to The Borneo Post yesterday, PTBS tournaments and development officer, Ismail Abdullah, said that the third edition of tournament will basically follow last year’s format.

But the association is expecting a higher standard of organisation and greater participation.

“It is still a team event but we hope for more participation,” Ismail added.

Since it was inaugurated in 2011, the YB Fadillah Cup have been held at the PTBS headquarters here in Semariang. Ismail reiterated that the development of Bumiputra tennis remains the main objective of the tournament.

He said that the tournament is likely in the first week of September.

The association would like tournament patron Datuk Fadillah Yusof to attend the opening ceremony.

“We do understand that he has a very busy schedule as the Works Minister but he is an integral part of the tournament,” Ismail explained.

Last year’s champion, Team N6 Tupong, will return to defend their title.
