Tour of Borneo gets overwhelming response

KOTA KINABALU: A total 120 cyclists from 20 teams will take part in the second edition of the Tour of Borneo (ToB) from Aug 18 to 22.

“The cyclists will pass through challenging routes, namely, in the fourth stage involving the route to Kundasang (foot of Mount Kinabalu),” ToB organising chairman Datuk Freddie Sua said.

“The participants had experienced the championship last year.

“This is also the best chance for them to garner points to qualify for bigger championships,” he told a press conference here yesterday.

He said the overall cash prize for the ToB this year totalled RM120,000, involving four categories namely overall champion (yellow jersey), sprint king (green jersey), king of the mountain (red jersey) and Asia’s Best racer.

National teams taking part in the championship are Malaysia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Bahrain while state teams are from Sabah and Terengganu.

Clubs taking part are from the Malaysian Armed Forces, Royal Malaysia Police, Team Corbusier Sarawak (Malaysia) and Customs Cycling Club (Indonesia).

The continental team taking part comprise Synergy Baku Cycling Team (Azerbajian), Terengganu Cycling Team (Malaysia), Tabriz Petrochemical Team (Iran), CCN Cycling Team (Brunei), OCBC Singapore Continental Cycling Team (Singapore), Huon Salmon Genesys Wealth Advisers Pro Cycling (Australia), Team 7 Eleven-Road Bike Philipines (Filipina), Team LBC (Filipina), Polygon Sweet Nice (Ireland) and RTS Racing Team (Taiwan). — Bernama
