KOTA KINABALU: Two students from separate private leaning institutions were among four people detained by police in connection with the armed robbery case of a prominent businessman cum lawyer at the latter’s law firm office in Luyamg, here on July 16.

The police arrested the women, aged 21 and 22, with their respective boyfriends inside a Honda Civic car near the central market, here on August 8 around 8pm.

Deputy city police chief Superintendent M. Chandra said the recent arrests have resulted in the arrest total of 15 people in connection with the July 16 armed robbery case.

“Police believe the two couples were involved in the case and investigations are still being carried out.

“During the arrest, police also found numerous items such as a samurai sword, knuckle duster, screwdrivers, crowbar, walky-talkies and jewellery inside the vehicle,” he said at a press conference at the city police headquarters in Karamunsing here yesterday.

Businessman cum lawyer, Datuk Joseph Ambrose Lee’s ‘Labuan House’ law firm was broken into by four men after overpowering a security guard who was taking a nap around 2.10am on July 16.

It was believed that the 44-year-old security guard had fallen asleep while on duty when three men covered his face with a cloth before tying both his hands.

They then brought him to a room outside the house where a Filipina maid was sleeping.

The robbers tied her up before they forced entry into the main house via a window where they forced open a safe containing RM10,000, USD10,000 (RM38, 000), S$120,000 (RM240, 000), three watches and personal documents including passports.

Ten people have so far been detained by the police in connection with the case.

Chandra, meanwhile, said the police have released four people after their statements were taken down while six people have been charged in court.

“Three of them were charged under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code for gang-robbery, while the remaining three were charged under Section 411 of the same code for receiving stolen property,” he said.

Meanwhile, Chandra said police were currently looking for another suspect who is believed to be one of the masterminds in connection with the case.

“Police believe the last suspect, identified as Mohd Riddzy Foo, 20, from Taman Nosoob, Kobusak, Penampang can assist police in our investigation.

“Anyone with information about this man should contact Inspector Jamirin immediately at 016-587 7111 or the police hotline at 088-221 191 or the nearest police station,” he said.
