Car thieves go extra mile for Land Cruiser, shoving Benz aside

KUCHING: Thieves went the extra mile to steal a four-wheel-drive (4WD) vehicle from a house in Hui Sing Garden by pushing a second car, which was blocking the path of their intended target, out of the way.

The theft was discovered around 6.30am yesterday when the owner of the 4WD – a middle-aged consultant – was awoken up by a neighbor that the front gate to his house was wide open and his Mercedes Benz had been pushed onto the kerb across the road.

The consultant soon realised that thieves had not only stolen his Toyota Landcruiser, but had gone to great lengths to do so by smashing the window of his Mercedes which was parked behind the 4WD in the driveway, and then releasing the handbrake to push it out of the way.

It was also discovered later that the thieves had taken the precautionary measure to bring along a car battery with them to the heist to avert the possibility of failing to start the 4WD vehicle.

As it transpired, they faced no such problem and left behind the battery behind in the car porch.

A police report of the theft has been lodged and the case is being investigated.
