KOTA KINABALU: Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) doors are always open to those who subscribe to the party’s ideology.

“As far as LDP is concerned, we welcome anyone who has the will to serve the people, anyone who subscribes to our party’s ideology and willing to struggle with us for a common cause,” its secretary general Datuk Teo Chee Kang said.

Teo said this when asked about the possibility of Luyang assemblyman Dr Hiew King Cheu joining LDP should the latter leave DAP.

The Special Tasks Minister said he and Hiew were friends and they occasionally met each other when attending social functions.

They however had yet to talk about the possibly of Hiew joining LDP, he said when asked if Hiew had expressed such an intention to him.

Teo was of the opinion that leaving the opposition would be a wise decision for the elected representatives concerned if they truly wanted to resolve problems affecting their constituents.

“Because as long as they are not in the mainstream of the state’s politics, there is no way for them to help resolve any of the problems faced by people in their respective constituencies,” he said.

Hiew has resigned as Sabah DAP advisor amid speculations that he is on the verge of leaving DAP. He has been quoted as toying with the idea of being an independent elected representative.

Teo said this when met at LDP Tanjung Aru and Petagas joint annual general meeting here yesterday.

During the meeting which was officiated by LDP vice president Datuk Lim Ming Hoo, Teo relinquished the Tanjung Aru division chief post to Albert Ngan while Petagas chief Albert Kok made way for his successor Peter Chong Su Leong.

Teo in his speech expressed hope that the safety of the state and country would be increased in view of the increasing number of violent crimes being committed in Malaysia of late.

“Sabah has not been spared as there are also such cases happening in the state, and this has got all the people worried. It is my and the people’s hope that the police can look into increasing the safety of the public and country,” he said.
