KUCHING: PKR Sarawak chairman Baru Bian will lead a five-member team to Pakatan Rakyat (PR) Council meeting soon as the opposition pact makes early preparation for the 11th state election.

Speaking to reporters here yesterday, he said the council, to be made up of representatives from all PR coalition parties, was expected to be officially announced by the end of next month.

“The council will be a forum for the coalition to discuss seat allocations,” said Baru after chairing a party meeting at their headquarters yesterday.

Accompanying Baru would be state PKR deputy chairman Zulrusdi Hol, Batu Lintang assemblyman See Chee How, Krian assemblyman Ali Biju and the party’s Bidayuh representative Dr Chris Kiyui.

Baru said the State DAP and PAS would be selecting their own five representatives to the council.

“We need to prepare (for the state polls) early as we have learnt a lot from the past two elections.”

In the last state election, the PR coalition won 16 out of the 55 seats it contested. Of these seats, PKR, which contested 40 seats, won only three seats.

Meanwhile, Baru said the State PKR was always ready to cooperate with any new or old parties who are against the Barisan Nasional.

“If the Sarawak Workers Party (SWP) is willing to cooperate and understand our struggles, we are more than happy to return the cooperation,” said Baru, in response to rumours that SWP was interested to join PR.

Baru also clarified that BN foes would not need to come under the PR umbrella in order to jointly fight BN.
