KOTA KINABALU: A woman from China was fined RM5,000, in default, three months’ jail by the Magistrate’s Court for offering sex service to a man here yesterday.

Yang Xinhua pleaded guilty before magistrate Edward Paul to soliciting for the purpose of prostitution in a budget hotel room at Jalan Pasar in Kampung Air on August 13 this year, at around 10.40pm.

She was charged under Section 372B of the Penal Code which provides a maximum jail term of two years and liable to a fine upon conviction.

Prosecuting officer Lim Swee Beng told the court that Yang was caught together with a man inside the budget hotel room during a police raid. The man then admitted to having sex with the accused for RM100.

Defense counsel Farazwin Hexdy, who represented Yang, pleaded to the court to impose the lowest fine on the accused, who was remorseful over the offence and is a single mother of two young children who are in China.

Yang, a first-time offender, was also ordered to be referred to the Immigration Department by the court.

Meanwhile, in the same court, a 58-year-old local man was fined RM1,500, in default, six months in prison for possessing illegal four-digit (4D) lottery implements on June 19 around 5.05pm.
