KOTA KINABALU: The sentence meted out by the High Court here on Tuesday in respect of the rape appellant convicted on 17 counts of rape was that the punishment of whipping was enhanced from 17 strokes to a maximum of 24 strokes of the cane only and not 24 strokes for every charge as reported.
Justice Chew Soo Ho imposed the maximum whipping on Hamid Karno, 46, but reduced the latter’s sentence of 50 years to 33 years after hearing his appeal against the lower court’s decision.
