KOTA KINABALU: Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) vice president Datuk Pang Yuk Ming has urged party president Datuk Liew Vui Keong to call for another supreme council meeting to repeal the resolution for the top two party posts to be uncontested in the party election in October.

Pang said Liew would be sought to hold a supreme council meeting upon his return to Kota Kinabalu to discuss whether they should repeal the resolution since there were divisions who wanted reform.

If the supreme council refused to repeal the resolution, it would seem that they did not want to listen to the grassroots level, the Assistant Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment said.

Pang said the resolution should be respected, whether it was right or wrong, because it was decided by party leaders.

“However, a resolution was not final because the final decision rests upon the party members, he added.

Hence, he contended that a more proper approach would be to hold another supreme council meeting to determine whether to revoke the resolution or not.

“So that if we contest, it will not seem like we don’t give face,” Pang said that when officiating at LDP Moyog division annual divisional conference here yesterday.

“If I want to contest, at least I don’t go against the supreme council’s decision (if the resolution is repealed). That way we all feel better.”

Pang admitted that he did not expect the announcement of his intention to vie for a higher post to cause unrest within the party.

However, he said he had not decided which post to contest for because many party divisions had yet to hold their annual divisional conference, and that only eight divisions had expressed their desire for reformation.

“Till now I have not decided my next step. I would have to see the nominations and have some time to decide.”

Nonetheless, Pang stressed that he had learned from several sifu (masters) for the past 20 years in LDP and he expressed his gratitude towards the leaders for the opportunity.

“I feel that I’m matured enough to move on to a higher level, and see how to help our party to move forward to greater heights.”

Also present at the event were Minister of Special Tasks cum LDP secretary-general Datuk Teo Chee Kang, Moyog division chief Datuk Lim Ming Hoo, LDP Youth leader Chin Shu Ying, LDP chief publicity officer Albert Kok, LDP supreme council member Peter Chong and other party members.
