BANTING: As the Special Crime Prevention Operation or ‘Ops Cantas’ marked its third day on Tuesday, Selangor police detained 32 people in Kuala Langat to facilitate investigations into various criminal cases.

The 31 men and a woman were among 152 people screened by a police team.

Selangor acting police chief Datuk A Thaiveegan said the suspects, aged between 20 and 40, were picked up on suspicion of possession and distribution of drugs, theft and intimidation.

He said the police also detained a 43-year-old man when he assaulted a policeman at a road-block in Kuala Kubu Baharu yesterday.

“The suspect was remanded for four days,” he told a media conference at the Kuala Langat police headquarters here yesterday.

Meanwhile, Thaiveegan described as ‘irresponsible’ and ‘cowardly’, the action of those who sprayed graffiti on the wall of the Kuala Langat police headquarters and police beat bases.

He said the graffiti was derogatory and disrespectful of the law.

On Tuesday, Chinese newspapers reported that several places in Banting, such as the wall of the district police headquarters, police beat bases and bus stops near the town market were spray-painted with graffiti depicting swastikas and ‘04 RIP’. — Bernama
