Drug trafficking: Prosecution ordered to make further submission

KOTA KINABALU: The High Court here yesterday ordered the prosecution to make further submission in the trial of a local man charged with trafficking into the State 4,383 grams of ketamine and 2,559 grams of syabu.

Justice Chew Soo Ho fixed August 29 this year for the prosecution to submit additional written submission concerning the case’s chain of evidence.

Chin Yee Yong @ Ah Hiung, 33, was alleged to have trafficked in the drugs on December 12, 2012 at Terminal Two of the Kota Kinabalu International Airport here. The offence framed under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 carries the mandatory death penalty, upon conviction.

Deputy public prosecutor Afzan Abd Kahar had, during the trial, called 13 witnesses to testify.

The accused, defended by counsel Ram Singh, was ordered to be remanded further in custody under Section 259 of the Criminal Procedure Code, pending disposal of the case.
