Public servant, 3 youths jailed for break-in, theft

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: A JAPEM instructor and three other unemployed youths were sentenced to jail yesterday at the Bandar Magistrate’s Court yesterday after they pleaded guilty to a string of thefts and mischief, Borneo Bulletin reported.

MCYS officer Mohamad Yazid bin Mohamad Taib, 21, received 18 months’ imprisonment from Chief Magistrate Haji Abdullah Soefri POKSMDSP Hj Abidin, while 23-year-old Muhammad Rafi’uddin bin Awang Moin, a former student of Pusat Latihan Mekanik of MTSSR, was jailed 30 months with three strokes of the cane.

Third year UBD undergraduate, 21-year-old Muhammad Abdul Aziz bin Adun was sentenced to 18 months’ imprisonment and Form Five school leaver Muhammad Nazirul Reduan bin Hj Md Masuni, 20, received 18 months’ imprisonment.

Facts submitted in court by DPP Ratno Eddy Sophian Haji Zaidi stated that all the defendants drove aloWalan Batu Sam May 5, 2013 looking for cars to steal from.

They saw a white Mercedes AMG and broke its window with a rock and stole sunglasses, floor mats and a sunshade.

After midnight on June 7, 2013, the defendants drove to Jalan Jerudong and stole a pair of slippers, several music CDs, a perfume and a box containing various female toiletries from a Toyota Vios.

Later at about lam, they drove further down Jalan Barn Bersurat and parked their car near Happy Star store.

They walked around, saw a parked Hyundai Santa Fe and broke a window using a tyre iron and stole two bags containing clothes, a bag containing a smart phone, three branded-watches and a company chequebook.

They left Batu Bersurat and headed to Beribi Industrial area between 2.30 and 3am and parked near Pizza Hut in Beribi. There they broke into a Mitsubishi Pajero using a tyre iron again. They stole a bag containing invoices, a bluecard, two passports, an account book, a driver’s licence and a smart phone along with two cartons of Era cigarettes.

The court further heard that the defendants muck after midnight on June 24, 2013 at Kg Tanjong Bunut and broke a BMW 520i’s window to steal a pair of sunglasses, an iPhone car charger, floor mats, a CD album and a car shade.

After leaving Kg Tanjong Bunut, they drove to Kg Jerudong and smashed a window of a Toyota Altis and stole a bag containing clothes, a pair of sports shoes, an MP3 player and a pen drive.

All the defendants admitted that the offences were planned by them.
