PUTRAJAYA: Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said public servants needed to practise the work culture of speed, accuracy and integrity in order to deliver excellent service to the people.

He said this they should do despite their facing various issues and challenges in carrying out their daily tasks.

Muyhiddin, who is also Education Minister, was speaking at the presentation of the Excellent Service Award 2012 to 614 staff of the ministry, here, yesterday.

He urged the award recipients to continue their excellent work performance for efficient administration or management, and to give priority to the interests of the public.

“The ministry’s service delivery system must be improved from time to time in meeting the needs and wants of the people and it should be based on the Key Performance Indicators (KPI) targets set by the ministry,” he said.

Also present were Deputy Education Minister Datuk Mary Yap Kain Ching, the ministry’s secretary-general Datuk Dr Madinah Mohamad and Education director-general Tan Sri Abd Ghafar Mahmud.

Muhyiddin said all of the ministry’s staff must be prepared to effect a paradigm shift so that any transformation that took place would have a high impact on the quality of education in the country.

“Transformation carried out by the ministry, hopefully, could give satisfaction to its customers or at par with that in the developed countries,” he said.

Muhyiddin said the government was very concerned about the welfare of civil servants and as such, had provided them with various facilities including the allocation for three additional annual salary increments in the minimum-maximum scale and increase in the increment rate of between seven and 13 per cent, effective January this year.

He said the salary increment given in July and the honorarium of RM500 each in conjunction with the Aidilfitri celebration were also in recognition of civil servants’ contribution and hard work. — Bernama
