KOTA KINABALU: The Magistrate’s Court sentenced a local salesman to six months’ imprisonment for punching a woman on her head and forehead.

Magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus imposed the sentence on Tang Ka Kee, 26, after he pleaded guilty to punching the female manager at the female restroom of an entertainment outlet at KK Times Square, on June 1.

The offence framed under Section 323 of the Penal Code carries up to one year jail, or liable to a fine upon conviction.

Tang, represented by counsel YS Lo, who is standing in for Ram Singh, mitigated that the accused was drunk at the time of incident.

Lo also told the court that the accused was a first-time offender and is remorseful of his actions.

Meanwhile, in the same court, Md Rizan Jumali, 20, was fined RM25, in default, seven days’ imprisonment for threatening a 65-year-old male with a screwdriver on Aug 10.

The court was told that Rizan had stood outside the victim’s home at 9.20pm that night with the intention of bringing the victim’s child out but the victim prohibited the act.

The local youth then pointed a screwdriver at the victim, who felt threatened and subsequently lodged a police complaint.

The offence, under Section 8 (1) (e) of the Minor Offences Ordinance, carries a maximum penalty of RM25, on conviction.

Prosecuting officer Inspector Azaman Hamat prosecuted both cases.
