CYBERJAYA: About 40,000 gangsters believed to be involved in violent crimes across the country have their names listed under the nationwide police operation called ‘Ops Cantas’.
Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Datuk Seri Mohd Bakri Zinin said police would continue with the operation until the violent crime rate in the country dropped.
“The operation will continue until safety is ensured, public confidence is restored and the fear of ‘becoming a victim of crime’ is reduced,” he told reporters after the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) and Limkokwing University, here, yesterday.
The MoU was signed by Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department director Datuk Syed Ismail Syed Azizan and Kimkokwing University of Creative Technology senior vice-president Datuk Raja Aznil Raja Hashim.
The MoU will enable the university to get a five-year contract to provide materials such as posters, animations and video clips to the police for the cybercrime prevention campaign.
Ops Cantas was launched on Aug 23 due to reported rising crime and shooting incidents.
On Monday, Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said he would soon announce the names of the triads and the crimes committed by them because he wanted the public to understand that the police were earnest in the fight against crime. — Bernama
