MIRI: The Youth and Sports Department is committed in ensuring that all its Gym Rakyat 1Malaysia (GR1Ms) are managed accordingly and systematically.

Its director Abdul Haris Ishak said the department welcomes ideas and suggestions from gymnasium managers to help improve the quality and standard of the gym.

“All those involved in running the gymnasium should have the proper knowledge in order to provide good gym service to members,” he said at the closing ceremony of Gym Management and Financial Course organised by the department at Eastwood Valley Golf and Country Club here yesterday.

To ensure success, the gym workers would be given training on the proper use of the equipment.

“With the right knowledge, they can give the correct guidelines and information to members on the proper usage of the gym as well as the right techniques of using the equipment,” he said.

On the course, he said it was designed to provide knowledge and skills on the use of gym equipment as well as basic gym management knowledge apart from telling the people about the existence of such facility.

Twenty-eight GR1M leaders from Miri, Sri Aman, Sarikei, Kapit and Limbang attended the three-day course which ended yesterday.

Assistant director sports development at the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Mohd Hafdzan and Lamat Nyalau the commissioner of Sarawak Sports were among those who attended the closing ceremony.
