Sarawak eye Boys’ Open, Girls’ Open titles

KUCHING: Sarawak bowlers are eyeing the Boys’ and Girls’ Open titles in the grand finals of Sportexcel-NSC-Milo-MTBC Junior Circuit at Sunway Mega Lanes in Petaling Jaya from Sept 14 to 15.

Bagging both titles will ensure state bowlers the automatic entry into the national youth squads.

“We are hoping to secure one slot each for the Boys Open through Adri Shahri Santosoh, Mohd Uzair Irsyad Noor Azrul and Ervin Lim Wai Mun and the Girls Open through Jocelyna Judith Jonathan,” said team manager Angelo Koay yesterday.

“For the Boys Graded and Girls Graded, the podium finish is what we are looking for.

“As for the Under 12 we have Mohd Nur Syafiq Mohd Amin and Abdul Kadir Haziq Ramli.

“We hope it will be a good exposure for both of them as they are only in their first year of bowling,” he added.

He also congratulated the 10 state bowlers who have booked their tickets to the grand finals.

“They have put in a lot of hard work and they deserved their GP slots. But the job has not been done yet. The actual war has just begun.In the GP finals, they will be up against their counterparts from West Malaysia and we expect a tough fight for the various division titles,” say Koay.

State bowlers had competed in the Sarawak and Sabah legs of the circuit and grabbed 10 out of 16 qualifying spots for the grand finals.

The bowlers and their scores are Jocelyna Judith Jonathan in Girls Open who collected 239 points, Jacelyn Ng Shuh Wun (338) and Nur Aina Kamallia (338) in the Girls Graded, Adri Shahri Santosoh (355), Mohd Uzair Irsyad Noor Azrul (238) and Ervin Lim Wai Mun (209) in the Boys Open, Melvin Gilbert Gimang Tingau (570) and Ryan Lanyu Reginald (498) in the Boys Graded, and Mohd Nur Syafiq Mohd Amin (156) and Abdul Kadir Haziq Ramli (134) in the Boys U12.

The Sabahan qualifiers are Syarifah Nadia Ali Hassan and Amanda Than Yin Xin (Girls Open), Kristi Elli Jauw Shain Hui (Girls Graded), Megan Tatiana Calary Jemandan and Sasha Ameera Puteri Shahrom (Girls U12), and Sushanor Sihanor (Boys Graded).
