KAPIT: Outgoing Song District Officer Galong Luang has handed over his duties to Sarawak administrative officer Jacklin August, who will hold the fort until the post is officially filled.

Kapit Resident Fedrick John George witnessed the handing over of duties recently.

“Song District is vast and it needs an administrator who is well versed with the rural area, experienced and development orientated. I hope that the government will pick the right person with the support of the two elected representatives namely the Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi and state assemblyman for N55 Katibas Datuk Ambrose Blikau Enturan,” said Fedrick.

He said as an administrator, synergy with politicians is vital for the incoming district officer to ensure the smooth implementation of development projects.

Galong will begin his duties as Betong Deputy Resident on Monday (Sept 2).

His civil service career began 16 years ago with his first posting as research officer for the Institute for Medical Research (IMR) in Kuala Lumpur.

From there he was posted to the Limbang District Office for about five years before joining the Miri Resident’s Office in 2002.

From 2008 to 2009, he was attached to the Ministry of Land Development in Kuching before becoming Song District Officer on June 8, 2009.

Galong was the first to introduce the concept of gotong-royong for the implementation of the government Housing Aid Project (PBR) for Song District, which has proven to be very successful.

Previously PBR projects were awarded to private contractors.

The programme was used by the Song District Office for its Innovative and Creative Circle (ICC) project, which won third place under the Management Category for district offices at this year’s state-level ICC Convention.
