KOTA KINABALU: Newly appointed Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) secretary general Loretto S Padua Jr has received and rejected two requests from the party’s supreme council leaders for a meeting.

According to Loretto, he was acting on the instructions of LDP president Datuk VK Liew as the latter assured him that he will call for a supreme council meeting in due course.

Loretto disclosed that he received two requisitions for a meeting of the LDP’s Supreme Council yesterday.

The first one in the form of a press statement by LDP assistant secretary general Ho Jia Lit, and the latter in the form of a letter signed by the party’s deputy president, Senator Datuk Chin Shu Phin.

“I had replied to both where I declined their requests as my president Datuk VK Liew instructed me to say that he will call for a supreme council meeting in due course which can be on the day they requested or any day thereafter.

“The provision which they cited gave three conditions for supreme council to be called.

As the president had given me that assurance that a supreme council will be called in due course, I am satisfied that the other requirements become redundant.

“I also wish to say that my assistant has acted outside his jurisdiction as I have never delegated to him any duty to do any press release on behalf of the party,” he said, adding that as he has two competing requests, he exercised his discretion to decline the requisition and this was done after consulting the executive office.

“However, I wish to notify all the members that the president has called for a Presidential Council Meeting at noon tomorrow (Saturday) in Sandakan.

“I was made to understand by the executive secretary that Notice of the Presidential Council Meeting was duly sent out by email at noon today to all of the existing members of the Presidential Council,” he said.
