TWO-GOAL HERO: Bobby Gonzales scored twice in Sarawak’s 4-0 win over Kedah last night.

KUCHING: Sarawak struck top form last night with a 4-0 hammering of Kedah in their Malaysia Cup Group D match at the State Stadium in Petra Jaya.

A quick-fire brace from Bobby Gonzales sealed the game for the Crocs, with two more goals by Zamri Morshidi and Muamer Salibasic, all in the second half of the game.

Playing to a full-house stadium, the Crocs had a sluggish first half as both teams played with caution.

Things looked dangerous for Robert Alberts’ boys after an unmarked Alan Guc nearly found the Crocs’ net in the 11th minute.

But his shot was blocked for a corner.

In the 21st minute, Sarawak hitman Bobby Gonzales almost found the net only to see his shot sailed across the bar.

Twenty three minutes into the game, skipper Joseph Kalang was on target but denied by a superb save from Kedah goalkeeper Mohd Sheril Anuar.

Kedah came close again as half time approached but Muhammad Syafiq Ahmad’s shot was stopped by Sani.

The score was 0-0 at the end of the first half.

After the interval, the Crocs started piling up the pressure and finally broke the duck in the 53rd minute when Zamri Morshidi connected a superb pass from Bobby.

The Canaries were again breached in the 62nd minute after a spectacular long shot by Muamer Salibasic, who had noticed the Kedah goalkeeper way out of his post outside the penalty area.

Despite the 2-0 cushion, Sarawak continued a series of attacks, and Bobby finally found the net, hitting the target off a rebound in the 74th minute.

Three minutes later, the Sabahan again terrorised Kedah defence, slotting the ball to make it 4-0.

Zamri had a goal in 76th minute that was ruled offside.

Kedah seemed to lose focus towards the end of the match.

Both set of players almost got into a brawl in the dying minutes of the game.

The scoreline read 4-0 in Sarawak’s favour at the final whistle.
