KOTA KINABALU: Local Sabah-based Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties must take heed of Liberal Democratic Party’s (LDP) internal crisis and work towards preventing something similar from happening to them.

PBRS vice president Dr Zhamriee Gulam Rasul said if local BN parties do not strengthen their position in the coalition, they would become extinct one day.

Speaking at the PBRS Karambunai annual general meeting yesterday, Dr Zhamriee stressed that internal threats can destroy a party and called on the division’s delegates to protect the unity within the party.

He also stressed that there is a need for BN component parties to strengthen the existing ties and cooperation so that they can garner more support from the people.

“This is very important as part of the preparations to wrestle back the seats from the opposition in the 14th general election,” said Dr Zhamriee who is also PBRS Karambunai chief.

“We must improve BN’s management and administration and I hope that the coalition’s central leaders will do something about this as it is imperative in getting the rakyat’s support. We cannot just let this go on as there is need to make preparations for the 14th general election.

“Immediate steps must be taken to resolve issues which have caused tension among BN component parties such as the division of seats,” he opined.

Dr Zhamriee also disclosed that PBRS central leaders are now discussing about the proposal to set up Putera and Puteri brigades to assist in disseminating accurate information to the youths in Sabah.

“Youths and young graduates in the state as well as country are very impressionable so we do not want them to be influenced by negative elements. With the Putera and Puteri brigades, we will also be able to disseminate correct information, especially about what the BN government has and is doing,” he stressed.
