KUALA LUMPUR: Legal action against traders who raise the price of goods and services following the hike in fuel prices can only be taken after the report on the complaint is verified by authorities.

The Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department answers questions from the media.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Nancy Shukri said squads from the Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry will monitor each constituency to ensure the validity of complaints against traders.

“If we want to take legal action, there must be proof because the interest of traders should also be considered,” she told reporters after launching the tourism website AsiaTourismAlliance.com (ATA) and ‘Your Sarawak Experience’, here today.

On public anxiety following the government decision to reduce fuel subsidy, Nancy said the measure taken by the Prime Minister should be understood by the people as it is aimed at balancing the economy, while ensuring low inflation.

Nancy officially launches AsiaTourismAlliance.com on the Tab held by Kho.

Meanwhile, ATA chief executive officer Kho Sze Min said ATA provides facilities for users to tailor their own tour packages from the booking process to the desired destination.

“There are over 140,000 hotel options offered in international destinations while the users also have a choice of more than 400 airlines,” he added.

Sarawak-based ATA offers a special package to Sarawak and ‘Your Sarawak Experience’ photo contest featuring the state’s unique culture, adventure and natural beauty.

The company which also received support from the Sarawak Tourism Board hopes to be the one stop centre for travellers and among the best tourism providers in the region. – Bernama
