KOTA KINABALU: The Sessions Court here yesterday was told that a Pakistani man who was charged with causing the death of Norikoh Saliwa admitted to giving her a ride before she was found death.

Investigating officer Pirikson Ubak told judge Duncan Sikodol that Amir Ali Khan Nawaty, 40, had responded to him during early investigations that he gave Norikoh a ride about 11am on the day she was found lying motionless by the roadside.

The accused, who is defended by counsel Rakhbir Singh, was charged with committing culpable homicide not amounting to the murder of Norikoh, 16, in a moving lorry along Jalan Km 2.8 Langkon from Kota Marudu between 11am and 12.30pm on November 25, 2012.

He faces a jail term of up to 10 years or with a fine, or both, if found guilty under Section 304 (b) of the Penal Code.

Under examination-in-chief by deputy public prosecutor Raja Zaizul Faridah Raja Zaharuddin, Pirikson testified that at that time Norikoh’s sister was also at the Kota Marudu police station for her statement to be taken.

“I did ask Bibianah to identify the accused whether he was the Pakistani man who gave a ride to her sister Norikoh and Bibianah identified him as the man,” said Pirikson.

The witness further said that on that day, the police did not remand the accused but he was taken to the police station only for early investigation.

To another question from Raja Zaizul, Pirikson also testified that the accused was rearrested on November 27, 2012 at his shop and his lorry was also seized.

Pirikson also said that they had done an identification of the accused’s lorry at Kota Marudu fuel station by Turagis but he could not recall the lorry as the image on the Close Circuit Television (CCTV) was not clear.
