Kedah police seize eight more firearms in Ops Cantas

ALOR SETAR: Kedah police seized eight firearms and detained a man during Ops Cantas after raiding a house in Padang Terap yesterday morning.

Kedah police chief, Datuk Ahmad Ibrahim said acting on a tip-off, a team from the Kedah police contingent headquarters and Padang Terap station raided a house at the 27th Mile, Jalan Naka Nami and found a hand gun plus seven assault rifles in the house.

“We also seized a semi auto Beretta 9mm pistol, three AK47 Assault Rifles, three M4 Colt Assault Rifles and a homemade assault rifle. There were also three types of bullets kept in two oil drums and 11 magazines.

A 50-year-old man was detained in the house,” he told reporters at the Kedah police headquarters, here yesterday.

He said following the first arrest, police nabbed another man, aged 53, at about 1pm yesterday, in Kuala Kedah. He said further investigations were being carried out to obtain more information and police are expected to make more arrests in relation to possession of firearms.

“The case is being investigated under Section 7 (1) of the Firearms (Increased Penalties Act 1971. The firearms are believed to have been brought in from a neigbouring country,” he said. — Bernama
