10 days to hear bank manager’s murder case

SIBU: The bank manager murder case will be coming up for trial at the High Court here on Sept 17, lasting for 10 days.

Thereafter, the case will continue to be heard – from Sept 30 to Oct 4 (tentative), Oct 7-18, Oct 28-Nov 1 (confirmed) and Nov 11-15 (tentative) and Nov 18-29 (confirmed).

Two men and a woman face death if convicted on the charge of murdering bank manager Stephen Wong who was found dead on June 14 last year in the master bed room of his house in Ulu Sg Merah.

The woman accused is Wong’s wife, 31-year-old Ling Hang Tsyr.

The other two accused are Ling’s friend Tiong King Guan, 26, and Ling Hoe Ing, 24.

Hoe Ing is charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code while Hang Tsyr and Tiong are charged with abetting the murder under Section 109 and Section 302 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34 of the same code for common intention to commit the crime.

Tiong is facing three other charges under Section 115 of the same code, an offence punishable with death, or life imprisonment.

Tiong is represented by Orlando Chua while Hang Tysr has four lawyers, namely Anthony Tai, Sempurai Petrus, Lim Heng Choo and Roger Chin.

Hoe Ing is represented by David Kuok.

The case was yesterday brought up for mention before Justice Supang Lian.

According to Tai, about 80 prosecution witnesses and 20 defence witnesses will be called to testify.

Wong, 31, was found dead around 1.30am with slash wounds on his neck, stab wounds in the chest and stomach, and cuts on both arms.

His wife and their three-year-old son were in the house when police arrived at the scene.

The wife reportedly told police that she woke up upon hearing her husband struggle with an intruder, and that the intruder fled as she turned on the lights.
