KUCHING: Overwhelming response was received for the Kuching leg of this year’s Telekom Malaysia (TM) Golf Championship which will tee off at Damai Golf and Country Club (DGCC) today.

According to one of the organising committee members, there were golfers who had to be put on the waiting list after 120 golfers had entered in the fray for the attractive prizes offered.

The event is being held at DGCC for the second consecutive year and the organisers are satisfied with the response from local golfers.

The event in Kuching is the fourth out of the nine qualifying legs, involving some of the best golfing destinations within the Peninsular, Sabah and Sarawak with Kuching first hosted the event in 2010 at DGCC.

Divided into invitational and open categories, this year’s series was kicked off at Kelab Golf & Desa in Kelantan on June 29 while the national grand final is scheduled at Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club (KLGCC) on Nov 30.

It was disclosed that this year’s championship costs RM1.5 million to stage and is being held in collaboration with various strategic partners including Citroen (Naza Euro Motors), Taylor Made, Adidas Golf, Sony, Par Golf, Permanis (Revive) and AGSSG Links.

A brand new Citroen DS4 worth RM165,000 is up for grabs for a hole-in-one scored at the designated hole during the grand final and other exclusive prizes from TM and the other partners.

Apart from bringing home attractive prizes, the national grand champion will also receive the TM Golf Challenge Trophy which was introduced in 2011.
