SMK Chung Hua and SM Catholic victorious in swimming championship

SIBU: SMK Chung Hua lifted the overall boys champion’s title of the Sibu Division Inter-secondary and Primary Schools Swimming championship which ended here yesterday while SM Catholic won the girls’ title.

SMK Sacred Heart collected 244 points to grab second placing in the boys’ section followed by SMK Rosli Dhoby in third with 98 points.

The fourth placing went to SM Catholic High with 82 points, followed by SMK Methodist with 68 points, SMK Tung Hua with 31 points, Agape with 27 points, SM Wong Nai Siong with 27 points and SMK Sungei Merah with 18 points.

In the girls’, SM Catholic secured 173 points while SMK Chung Hua was second with 158 points, followed by SMK Methodist with 156 points, SMK Tung Hua with 59 points, SMK Rosli Dhoby with 39 points and Woodlands International School with 13 points.

Nee Gui Ping together with his teammates Ngu Jiung Jing, Ngu Jiung Wei and Kilian Ung Shihuang helped SMK Chung Hua to bag the championship after achieving a record breaking feat in the Boys’ B 4x 50m relay.

The quartet, dubbed the fearsome four by the local swimming fraternity, set a new time of 1’46.90 to erase the old record of 1’49.11” set last year.

Nee had earlier rewritten two meet records in the 50m butterfly with a new time of 27.51” and 100m butterfly with a time of 1’00.64”

These brought to 17 new meet records rewritten during the three-day championship.

National swimmer Alex Tiong Sie Hung took three records in Boys’ A 200m Individual Medley (2’18.84”), 100m freestyle (57.75”) and 50m backstroke (29.80”).

Ngu Jiung Wei smashed two records in Boys’ 100m freestyle (56.52”) and 50m freestyle (26.15”) while Boys’ D Jonathan Yek created two records in 100m backstroke (1’42.51”) and 100m backstroke (1’49.78”).

Those who contributed a record each included Cindy Sui in Girls’ B 100m freestyle (1’06.50”), Girls’ A Nita Wiong Zhi Yi in 50m backstroke (34.56”), Boys’ A Lau Sing Gei in 200m backstroke (2’57.64”).

For the primary schools category, SJK (C) Chung Sing ruled supreme when they collected 319 points to lift the overall title in the girls’ section, followed by SJK (C) Tung Hua with 228 points, SJK (C) Taman Rajang with 55 points and SJK Thai Kwang with 44 points.

In the boys’ section, SJK (C) Chung Sing was edged by SJK (C) Tung Hua which collected 227
points to lift the title by a single point.

SJK (C) Chung Sing garnered 226 points, followed by SJK (C) Taman Rajang with 87 points and SJK (C) Methodist with 71 points.
