LAHAD DATU: Two motorcyclists and a pillion rider were killed in two separate accidents at Km 21 off Jalan Lahad Datu and Jalan Felda Sahabat 11, on Thursday night.

District acting police chief Assistant Superintendent Bong Khuet Khiun said in the first incident, a couple identified as Mohd Nur Annas, 40, and his wife, Sitti Haisah Assat, 39, were killed on the spot after their motorcycle collided head-on with a Toyota Vigo about 7.45pm at Jalan Felda Sahabat 11.

It was learnt that they were heading towards Cenderawasih, from Tanjung Labian, while the Toyota Vigo was heading towards Fajar Harapan from Cenderawasih.

“Initial investigation found that the motorcycle was overtaking several vehicles on the hill and did not notice the oncoming Toyota Vigo on the opposite lane, and crashed into it. Due to the impact of the crash, both victims suffered serious injuries and died at the scene,” he said when contacted yesterday.

In the second incident, a teenager identified as Amir Farhan Razis, 15, was killed after he was hit by an express bus while making a U-turn at Km 21 off Jalan Lahad Datu, about 10.10pm on Thursday.

Bong said the victim who died later while receiving treatment was heading to a shop from his house when he was hit by the bus that was heading towards Kota Kinabalu from Tawau.

“The victim suffered injuries on his head and leg and was rushed to the district hospital for treatment. However, the victim was pronounced dead later due to serious head injuries,” he said.

Bong added that both cases were still under investigation under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
