KAPIT: Teachers of SMK Kapit turned up for the ‘Raya Tanglung — Majlis Hari Raya Aidilfitri Ramah Tamah/Tanglung’ organised by Muslim and Chinese teachers.

Principal Manggie Nyedang praised the teachers for their teamwork.

Earlier that Saturday, the school held an open day for parents, many of whom turned up.

“We invited parents to come over to interact with teachers and their children as we want them to be responsible and play a role in their children’s education,” he said.

“We organise night study and revision for boarders at the school hostel. The results show that they perform better than those staying outside, whose parents must ensure their children do homework or revision,” he added.

The dinner at the school hall later that evening saw some 140 teachers tuck into a variety of Muslim and Chinese dishes including ‘kekraya’ and ‘mooncake’.

Organising chairmen were Sidek Empawi and Wong Chik Shieng.

Among the activities of the evening were cake-cutting, dances by students from the Dance and Art Club, games and Chinese calligraphy which attracted many, including Muslim teachers.
