Local denies criminal intimidation

KOTA KINABALU: A self-employed local man pleaded not guilty to a charge of criminal intimidation through anonymous communication at the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday.

Zainal Abidin @ Amran bin Tuaran, 48, was accused of placing a threatening phone call to Chin Nyuk Phin, 58, at the area of Jalan Gaya here on Nov 8, last year.

The offence framed under Section 507 of the Penal Code carries two years’ imprisonment, in addition to punishment provided for criminal intimidation under the Section 506 of same Act, on conviction.

Magistrate Ryan Sangiraan Rayner Jr fixed Oct 2 for the accused’s case management and released him on a RM3,000 bail, with two local sureties.

Meanwhile, in the same court, Sarvisah Yusof, 24, pleaded not guilty to stealing a gold necklace belonging to the daughter of Sumarni Mahmud, 34.

The alleged offence happened at Centre Point mall here at around 12.45pm, on Sept 8, this year while the victim was with her daughter.

The charge under Section 379 of the Penal Code is punishable with maximum seven years’ imprisonment and liable to a fine or whipping, on conviction.

Ryan fixed Oct 8 for Sarvisah’s case management and imposed a RM2,000 bail on the accused deposited with two local sureties.

Inspector Syahrin Ali prosecuted both the cases.
