KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Tan Sri Abu Kassim Mohamed has been conferred the Darjah Seri Paduka Mahkota Brunei Yang Amat Mulia Darjah Kedua (D.P.M.B) award by the Sultan of Brunei Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah in conjunction with the sultan’s birthday.

He received the award, which carries the title Datuk Paduka, at Istana Nurul Iman, Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei yesterday.

According to an MACC statement here, Abu Kassim regarded the award as a very high appreciation towards himself, MACC, the people and government of Malaysia as a whole.

“I am confident the awarding of the DPMB will further strengthen the existing relations and cooperation between MACC and the Corruption Prevention Bureau (CPB) of Brunei Darussalam and bilateral relations between Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam,” he said.

He said the cooperation network between the two agencies in the last nine years had been used fully to discuss the sharing of investigation methods and positive transformation towards strengthening the capabalities of anti- corruption agencies, especially involving cross-boundary crimes.

“The cooperation of MACC and CPB also attracted attention in the evaluation report of the United Nations Office On Drugs And Crime whereby the success of the cooperation was reported as among the good practices by MACC in enforcing the law to combat corruption,” he added. — Bernama
