TAWAU: Twenty-five groups participated in the 15th Happy National Day sandcastle competition at Batu Payung (Tinagat beach) here yesterday morning in conjunction with Malaysia Day.
The event was jointly organized by Tawau Hokkien Association Youth Section together with the Federation of Chinese Associations Tawau Youth Section and Tawau Municipal Council (TMC).
Federation of Chinese Associations Tawau Youth Section president Datuk Yong Chi Fui officiated the opening ceremony of the competition which was held to promote the spirit of patriotism among the youths and enhance the relationship of the members.
It was divided into three categories: school, association and open.
For the school category, the winner was K.V Star Two while the second prize went to Sabah Chinese High School and the third prize to St Patrick B.
In the association category, Tawau Teo Chew Association Youth Section was the winner while the second and third prizes went to Tawau Hakka Association Youth Section and Tawau Fook Chow Association Youth respectively.
For the open category, the winner was K.V Star One with Sunday Hash and THHH taking the second and third prizes respectively.
